So today is the day we have all been waiting for. I finally got internet in my flat! I know feel like I can conquer the world and literally do anything.
So now that that is out of the way I can also communicate a lot better. I still have yet to download skype but I promise that I will soon and then I can chat with ya’ll. I’ll put up all my update contact details under the call me page. So I expect you all to pull out your world clocks and figure out what time it is in New Zealand so that we can communicate asap.
Anyway. I joined the tramping club last night. (Tramping=hiking and is a big deal here) They have trips going every weekend and this weekend Ally and I are going on their midwinter Christmas party. Yes it is winter here, not really sure what Christmas has to do with it. But it is more of a social trip with walking, and it kind of seems like the Loj at Tufts, which I’ve actually never been to, and definitely want to go to when I get back. Anyway, I’m trying to try new things. My flattie Amondine really wants to go skiing for the first time. I have also never been and she’s trying to get me to go. Seems kind of expensive and scary so not sure if that’s going to happen. But, I do really want to go rock climbing and with my VUWTC (Victoria University Wellingotn Tramping Club) membership I can go to this place down by the water for only five dollars on wednesdays.
Also tonight my dorm is having a kiwi quiz night bonding thing with free kiwi kai (food) of fish, chips and pavlova. Pavlova is a yummy kiwi cake that is sort of a meringue with fruit. I may try and make one out of the New Zealand cookbook my flatties gave me for my birthday. Or some other equally weird yet delicious treat. (Yes I am aware all I talk about it food)
Other upcoming highlights include the Wellington film festival! Ally and I are going to see Persepolis which I never saw in the states but heard was really good. On a related note I joined a video store here where week long rentals are only one dollar monday through thursday. sweetas! (A New Zealand expression short for sweet as pie. But -as can also be added to any word to intensify it. Ex: On weekends, I am lazyas.)
Well, now that I have internet you can expect more frequent updates and I promise promise that I’ll put pictures up soon!
